Capitale de l'Ombrie, Pérouse a abrité des banques juives et une communauté documentée aux XIVe–XVIe siècles, sous la forme de condotte renouvelables accordées par la commune. Les Juifs y furent expulsés lors de l'annexion des États pontificaux au XVIe siècle.
