Ostia Antica, port antique de Rome à l'embouchure du Tibre, possède la plus ancienne synagogue fouillée du monde occidental, datant du Ier siècle av. J.-C. au IVe siècle ap. J.-C. Ses phases de construction successives, ses inscriptions et ses éléments architecturaux (bima, aedicula) témoignent de la vie de la communauté juive d'Ostie dans l'Empire romain.
