Ville impériale de Souabe bavaroise dotée d'un plan urbain circulaire médiéval, Nördlingen a abrité une communauté juive documentée aux XIIe–XIVe siècles. La communauté fut anéantie lors des persécutions de la Peste noire en 1349.
