Monterrey, fondée en 1596 dans le nord du Mexique (Nuevo León), est intimement liée à l'histoire des conversos en Nouvelle-Espagne. Plusieurs de ses familles fondatrices, notamment les Carvajal, étaient d'origine judéo-conversa et furent victimes de l'Inquisition. Une communauté juive ouverte ne se reconstitua qu'au XIXe–XXe siècle avec l'arrivée d'immigrants ashkénazes et sépharades.
