Massa Marittima, cité minière de Toscane réputée pour son argent et son cuivre, vit des prêteurs juifs s'y établir aux XIVe–XVe siècles, documentés dans ses archives communales. Comme dans de nombreuses villes toscanes, ils opéraient avec des condotte accordées par la commune.
