Localité des Dardanelles, Lapseki (ancienne Lampsakos grecque) connut une présence juive depuis l'Antiquité, prolongée sous la domination ottomane. Au Moyen Âge et à l'époque moderne, des Juifs y participaient au commerce maritime des détroits.
