Ville du Moyen Atlas central, Khenifra comptait un mellah dont les habitants, principalement commerçants, entretenaient des relations économiques étroites avec les tribus berbères Aït Sgougou et Aït Ndir. La communauté déclina rapidement après l'indépendance du Maroc (1956).
