Ghadamès est une oasis caravanière aux confins algéro-tuniso-libyens, carrefour des routes transsahariennes, où la communauté juive était réputée pour son rôle de courtiers, orfèvres et commerçants. Les Juifs de Ghadamès quittèrent la ville après 1948, émigrant en Tripolitaine puis en Israël.
