Cité des Marches adriatiques, Fano a abrité une communauté juive avec une imprimerie hébraïque active au XVIe siècle, l'une des premières en Italie centrale. Les Juifs de Fano furent soumis aux restrictions pontificales qui les confinèrent progressivement dans un ghetto.
