El Djem (antique Thysdrus) est une cité du centre tunisien célèbre pour son amphithéâtre romain. Les sources antiques mentionnent une communauté juive active dans l'Afrique proconsulaire, région particulièrement densément peuplée de Juifs à l'époque romaine tardive.
