Armant (Hermonthis), bourgade de Haute-Égypte sur la rive ouest du Nil, est attestée comme siège d'une communauté juive dans des papyri grecs des Ier–IVe siècles. Ces documents, conservés dans des collections égyptologiques, témoignent de l'implantation juive dans les villes de la chôra égyptienne.
