Alibag, bourgade côtière du Konkan au Maharashtra, est l'un des centres historiques de la communauté Bene Israel. Plusieurs synagogues y furent construites aux XVIIe–XIXe siècles, dont la Sha'ar Harahamim (1840). C'est dans cette région que, selon la tradition, des naufragés juifs d'origine hébraïque auraient abordé il y a plus de deux millénaires.
