Murder of Sarah Halimi, thrown from the window of her apartment
4 avril 2017·Paris, rue de Vaucouleurs
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Sarah Halimi, a retired physician and school principal, is beaten and thrown from the window of her apartment on the rue de Vaucouleurs in Paris by a neighbor who recites verses during the attack. Police officers, present in the building, do not intervene immediately.
The case occupied the French justice system for years: the antisemitic qualification of the murder, initially set aside, was ultimately upheld by the judges, but the criminal irresponsibility of the perpetrator, declared to have suffered a delusional episode triggered by cannabis, brought an end to the prosecution. This conclusion provoked demonstrations in several countries and an amendment to the law on the abolition of criminal responsibility.
