The neighbourhood is sealed off and its Jewish inhabitants arrested, then taken to the Cité de la Muette in Drancy.
At the end of summer, the eleventh arrondissement of Paris, home to a large Jewish population of foreign origin, is sealed off for several days: the metro entrances are guarded, the streets closed, papers checked house by house. The men arrested — foreigners but also, for the first time, French citizens — are taken to the cité de la Muette, in Drancy, whose unfinished construction site becomes on that day a camp. It is the second great Parisian roundup, and the one that inaugurates the place from which almost all the convoys from France will subsequently depart.
