The Shoah (1939–1945)
Massacre of Rokiškis
15-16 août 1941·Rokiškis
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The mobile unit of the Hamann commando shoots in two days the Jews of the town and neighbouring hamlets, men, women and children alike; the commando chief's report counts them line by line.
Rokiškis, in the northeast of the country, is one of the localities where the mobile detachment operates on two consecutive days. The Jews of the town and surrounding villages, gathered for weeks in barns and stables, are led to the Bajorai forest and shot at the edge of pre-dug pits. The commando's report records the count, man by man, woman by woman, child by child.
