Taking of hostages

9 janv. 2015·Paris, Hyper Cacher

Toll
4

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The Hyper Cacher at the porte de Vincennes is a kosher supermarket in eastern Paris, frequented on Fridays by Jewish families from the neighborhood preparing for Shabbat. On January 9, 2015, two days after the attack on *Charlie Hebdo* and the day after the murder of a policewoman in Montrouge, Amedy Coulibaly entered armed, killed four customers, and held the others hostage. A Malian employee, Lassana Bathily, hid several people in the cold storage room in the basement and went out to alert the police. The RAID assault ended the hostage-taking in the late afternoon. The attack, claimed in the name of the Islamic State, precipitated the departure for Israel of thousands of Jews from France in the months that followed.
