The Shoah (1939–1945)

Deportation of the Jews of Zwolle

1942·Zwolle

Toll
bilan non établi

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The Jewish community of Zwolle is arrested and taken to Westerbork.

The community of Zwolle, seat of a regional rabbinate of the Overijssel, is summoned for deportation. The rabbi refused to go into hiding and accompanied his congregants to Westerbork. The city's records, kept with precision, made it possible to issue the summons without any prior search. The synagogue, the school, and the cemetery were abandoned; only a handful of community members, who had gone underground, lived to see the end of the war.
