The Shoah (1939–1945)
Expulsion of the Jews of Zaandam
janv. 1942·Zaandam
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The Jewish families of Zaandam are forced to leave the city for Amsterdam.
In Zaandam, in the industrial region north of Amsterdam, the occupier orders the Jews to leave the city within a few days and to settle in Amsterdam. This expulsion foreshadows the gradual concentration of all the Jews of the Netherlands in the capital, where they would be easier to round up. The residents of Zaandam were forced to abandon their homes, workshops, and shops, whose goods were inventoried and then sold for the benefit of the Reich.
