The Jews of Bakhmout-Artemivsk are locked in the city's gypsum galleries, whose exits are sealed.
Artemivsk, the former Bakhmout of the Donbass, is built above ancient gypsum quarries whose galleries served as warehouses. After the occupation, the city's Jews are summoned and directed toward these underground passages under the pretext of a regrouping.
Once the population is locked inside, the exits are walled up. Residents of the neighbourhood reported having heard voices behind the walls for several days. The galleries were reopened after the liberation of the city and the bodies exhumed by the investigative commission.
