The Jews of the city are arrested in waves and interned at Mérignac camp before their departure.
During the summer, the German police and the French police arrest foreign Jews in the Gironde, then French families. Those apprehended are interned at the camp of Mérignac, on the outskirts of the city, then directed to Drancy. Bordeaux was home to one of the oldest Portuguese communities in France, established since the sixteenth century, and a more recent population that had come from Central Europe.
