Crusade of the Pastoureaux

The community of Bordeaux was attacked by the Pastoureaux. The city was then under English rule, and the seneschal of the king of England endeavored, as did the officers of the king of France elsewhere, to contain the bands.

Bordeaux would not have a Jewish community again until the sixteenth century, with the arrival of the Portuguese marranes, whose descendants would form the Portuguese nation of Guyenne. Between the two, more than two centuries without a community: the Pastoureaux and the expulsion of thirteen hundred and six together created the void.
