A city on the upper Volga held by the occupant for long months, Rjev sees the Jewish inhabitants who remained registered, confined in a building in the center, then shot on the riverbank.
Rjev, on the upper Volga, becomes a disputed German stronghold for months. The small community that remained in place, swelled by refugees, is registered and confined, then shot during the winter; the city itself is almost entirely destroyed by the fighting.
