The Shoah (1939–1945)
Berlin Olympic Games
1-16 août 1936·Berlin
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
During the Games, signs hostile to Jews are removed from Berlin's streets and the press softens its tone; exclusionary measures resume once the stadiums close.
During the time of the Games held in Berlin, the regime suspends the antisemitic displays in the streets of the capital and removes the signs barring Jews from public places, so as not to offend foreign visitors and the press. The exclusionary measures themselves are not lifted. The superficial calm ends as soon as the competitions close, and arrests resume in the weeks that follow.
