A camp is opened at Sachsenhausen, near Oranienburg, and becomes the seat of the central administration of the concentration camps.

The Sachsenhausen camp is built near Oranienburg to replace the improvised facilities of the early years. Its fan-shaped layout, designed to be monitored from a single point, becomes the reference plan for subsequent camps. The general inspectorate of the camps is established there. Jews are detained there from the outset, and the camp will receive in large numbers the men arrested during Kristallnacht.
