the destroyed community

The community of Berlin was destroyed during the Black Death.

The city was then no more than a double merchant town on the Spree. Its Jewish life reconstituted itself in the following century, was expelled from the march following an accusation of host desecration, then was reborn at the end of the seventeenth century with the families who came from Vienna: three beginnings, of which this is the first erasure.
