Principal hakham de Bagdad au XIXe siècle, autorité en halakha et maître kabbaliste. Auteur prolifique d'une soixantaine d'ouvrages, il est surtout connu pour le Ben Ish Hai, exposé des lois de la vie quotidienne mêlé d'aperçus mystiques, organisé selon les parashiyot et destiné au grand public. Ses décisions font toujours autorité chez les séfarades.
