Rabbin, kabbaliste et médecin de Gérone, il participa à la Disputation de Barcelone (1263) face au converti Pablo Christiani. Son commentaire de la Torah intègre la dimension mystique à l'exégèse classique. Il s'installa en Terre d'Israël en 1267 et restaura la communauté juive de Jérusalem.
