After the pogrom in Tripolitania, a second wave of violence struck the community at the time of the war in Palestine. The Jews of Libya, whose presence dated back to Antiquity and who had already endured Italian racial laws and then the deportation of a portion of their number, drew their conclusions.
Emigration was organized from the end of the decade onward, with the agreement of the British administration and then of the independent kingdom. Almost the entire community left the country within three years, primarily to Israel, and a minority to Italy.
This departure brought an end to one of the oldest Jewish presences around the Mediterranean; only a residual core would remain in Libya, itself expelled after the Six-Day War.
