Tajoura, a coastal town east of Tripoli, is one of the places struck by the wave of violence in November. The Jewish community there was modest and ancient, living in its own quarter organized around its synagogue.
The dwellings are attacked and the Jewish quarter sacked; residents are killed, others wounded before help arrives. The event is part of a series that strikes some ten localities in Tripolitania simultaneously, ruling out the hypothesis of an isolated local incident.
For Jewish Libya, these days mark the beginning of the end of a presence spanning two thousand years; the exodus will begin within the following years, and Tajoura will be emptied of its Jews.
