the small community is attacked at the same time as Tripoli
Zaouïa, on the coast west of Tripoli, was home to a Jewish community of several hundred people. It was attacked at the same time as the capital, in the wave of violence that swept across Tripolitania at the beginning of November.
Inhabitants were killed, houses looted and burned. The violence lasted several days, until the British military administration regained control of the towns of the province. No significant inquiry followed, and the memory of those days would remain carried above all by the accounts of families.
At Zaouïa as elsewhere, the pogrom decided the community to leave: it had disappeared by the beginning of the following decade.
