The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Pinsk ghetto

octobre-novembre 1942·Pinsk

Toll
bilan non établi

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

One of the largest ghettos in Polesie is liquidated in a matter of days; the columns are led to pits dug on the outskirts of the city, and the last craftsmen are killed shortly after.

Capital of Polesie and one of the great Jewish cities of old Lithuania, Pinsk had seen its men rounded up and shot in the very first weeks of occupation. The ghetto that imprisoned the survivors was liquidated after a year of forced labor: the inhabitants were led to open pits outside the city, and the few fugitives who reached the marshes joined the detachments operating there.
