City on the Nida whose community, ancient and learned, is led in autumn to the extermination camp.
Pińczów, on the Nida, was home to an ancient community whose Renaissance synagogue ranked among the most remarkable in Poland. The occupier gathered the Jews of the town and surrounding villages there. Forced labor in the stone quarries and on the roads claimed the men. In the autumn, the population was assembled in the square and led toward Treblinka via the nearest station; the sick were shot in the cemetery. A small group kept behind for the clearing work was liquidated a few weeks later. The synagogue of Pińczów was ransacked.
