Janów Lubelski, a small town on the road from Lublin to Rzeszów, had a community of merchants and craftsmen settled around the market square. The occupier established a closed quarter there and forced the Jews from the surrounding villages into it. In the spring, the population was gathered in the square and marched on foot to the nearest railway station, then transported to Bełżec. The sick and those who refused to march were killed along the way. A group of men was held back to work in the sawmills of the region; it was liquidated a few months later, and the community of Janów Lubelski disappeared.
