On the fifth day of April, the Polish army arrested thirty-five Jews gathered for a relief distribution and shot them without trial, accusing them of holding a Bolshevik meeting.
The Pinsk massacre had international repercussions because it was carried out by the army of a state the powers had just recognized, at the very moment when the peace conference was debating the guarantees to be given to minorities. It is one of the events that would bring about the inscription of these guarantees in the treaties — protection that would remain a dead letter, but which brought the question of minorities into international law.
