The community of Slutsk was attacked by Muscovite and Cossack troops during the wars of the Deluge; part of the inhabitants took refuge behind the ramparts.
The Deluge is the name Poland gives to the simultaneous invasions by the Swedes, the Muscovites, and the Cossacks which, for a decade, ravaged the kingdom. The Jews were struck by all sides: by the invaders as inhabitants of the country, by Polish troops as suspects of collusion with the enemy.
