The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of Radyvyliv Ghetto

octobre 1942·Radyvyliv

Toll
plusieurs milliers de morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

At the announcement of liquidation, part of the inhabitants break through the fences and scatter into the fields; most are recaptured and shot with the others at the edge of the pits, but a handful reaches the woods and survives until liberation.

At Radyvyliv, near the old Galician border, the liquidation of the enclosed quarter is preceded by persistent rumors, and several families had prepared hiding places beneath the floorboards. When the day came, the population was led to pits on the outskirts of the town, while a considerable number of people escaped through the gardens into the wheat fields. Some of them reached the forests and survived until the end of the occupation.
