For several days, the small town is the scene of a street-by-street hunt, fugitives shot down in courtyards and on doorsteps. The hospital doctor keeps his journal hour by hour and records what he sees from his window: this testimony, published after the war, is one of the most precise accounts of a liquidation witnessed from inside a town.
The liquidation of the Jewish quarter of Szczebrzeszyn is one of the best-documented in the Gouvernement général, because the small town's physician kept a day-by-day journal of events. In it he describes the roundups, the bodies left in the streets for days, the hunt for people hiding in attics and cellars, and the attitude of the inhabitants. His testimony, published after the war, remains a first-hand source on what a liquidation looked like seen from a window.
