The community of Gard is struck by arrests in the unoccupied zone.

At the end of August, the prefecture of Gard ordered the arrest of foreign Jews in the department under the terms of the deliveries agreed upon by Vichy. The families were gathered together and then directed to Drancy via Rivesaltes. Nîmes was home to one of the oldest communities in the Midi, and mutual aid organizations were established there, several of which attempted to secure the release of children before the departures.
