The Poitou camp assembles Jews from the region before their transfer to Drancy.
The camp on the route de Limoges, in Poitiers, first served as a detention site for nomads and foreign nationals interned from the Vienne department. During the summer, it became the assembly point for Jews arrested in the department and in part of the Centre-Ouest. The convoys made their way to Drancy. Poitiers was located just within the occupied zone, the demarcation line running a few dozen kilometers to the south, and the camp also received families arrested while attempting to cross it.
