Foreign Jews from Languedoc were arrested and assembled before their departure to the occupied zone.
At the end of August, the prefecture of Hérault ordered the arrest of foreign Jews in the department under the terms of deliveries promised to the occupier. The families were gathered and then directed to Drancy via Rivesaltes. Languedoc sheltered refugees from Spain, Central Europe, and the exodus, and the faculty of Montpellier included Jewish teachers and students who had relocated from Strasbourg.
