The community of Nova Gradiška is rounded up in the first months of the Ustaše regime and taken to the nearby camp opened on the bank of the Save.
Nova Gradiška, in Slavonia, was home to a small Jewish community, settled along the railway line that follows the Sava. The racial decrees of the Ustasha regime stripped it, in the very first weeks, of its businesses and its rights. The city's misfortune lay in its proximity to the camp complex that the regime had just opened on the riverbank, a few kilometers away: the Jewish families rounded up in Nova Gradiška did not have to be transported far. They were taken to those camps in the months that followed, along with the Serbs and Roma of the region, and most of them perished there.
