Jewish families of Križevci are dispossessed of their property, marked with the distinctive sign, then arrested and handed over to the camps of the Ustashi State.
Križevci, a small town in northern Croatia, was home to a modest but well-established Jewish community, present in local commerce and the liberal professions. Within a matter of weeks, the racial decrees of the Ustasha regime stripped it of its property and rights: businesses confiscated, bank accounts frozen, compulsory identifying badges, prohibition from frequenting certain places. Roundups followed during the summer, carried out by the regime's militia, and families were taken to the camps opened in Slavonia. Most perished there. After the war, no organized Jewish community remained in Križevci.
