The community of Mulhouse was destroyed during the wave of the Black Death.
The city left the Empire a century and a half later to ally itself with the Swiss cantons, and this affiliation weighed heavily on the fate of the Jews of the region: they were tolerated in the villages of the Sundgau, but not in the city itself.
