the community attacked
The community of Graz was attacked during the Black Death.
It survived and remained, until the expulsion from Styria at the end of the fifteenth century, the principal community of the duchy; its synagogue stood in the quarter that still bears the name of Judendorf.
The city was the residence of the dukes of Styria, and it is this princely protection, as much as the distance from the Rhenish roads from which the wave originated, that explains how the community passed through that year without being annihilated like those of Carinthia and Carniola.
