Issu d'une éminente famille rabbinique de Bagdad et descendant de Sadqa Bekhor Hussein, il fonda en 1867 la troisième imprimerie hébraïque de Bagdad. Il traduisit en judéo-arabe des parties de la Haggada de Pessah et du Siddour, et documenta la vie communautaire (dont une liste de 1892 conservée à la Bibliothèque nationale d'Israël).
