Rabbin et savant talmudiste, il officia comme rabbin à Boskowitz (Boskovice, Moravie) de 1894 à 1915, puis s'installa à Vienne. Vice-rabbin provincial et citoyen d'honneur de Boskowitz. Il consacra son œuvre à l'histoire des juifs de Babylonie et à l'étude du Talmud.
