Copiste de la communauté de Tanam, l'une des plus anciennes du Yémen (dite « resh galuta »). Il transcrivit un exemplaire du Midrash ha-Gadol, travail de copie financé par R. Abraham ben Saadia ha-Cohen. La communauté de Tanam, réputée pour l'étude talmudique, comptait de nombreux copistes.
