Dernier nagid d'Égypte (au Caire), en fonction de 1502 jusqu'à la conquête ottomane de 1517 qui met fin au négidat. Bien que d'ascendance espagnole, ses aïeux directs résidaient à Tlemcen (Algérie) dès le XVe siècle. Mécène des études talmudiques, il exerça aussi son autorité sur les communautés d'Erets Israël (Jérusalem), où il mourut en 1525. Il succède à son oncle Nathan (Jonathan) Sholal, nagid de 1484 à 1502.
