Savant, médecin et planteur juif du Surinam. En 1788 il publie l'« Essai historique sur la colonie de Surinam », défense érudite de la place des Juifs dans l'histoire de la colonie, en réponse aux historiens des Lumières (Voltaire, Raynal). Œuvre pionnière d'historiographie juive créole.
