Négociant/manufacturier à Nancy, élu en 1789 par les Juifs d'Alsace-Lorraine, il plaida la cause de l'émancipation devant l'Assemblée constituante jusqu'au vote du 27 septembre 1791. Il publia des textes marquants sur la citoyenneté des Juifs, dont la « Lettre d'un citoyen » (Nancy, 1791), et réfuta le discours anti-juif de l'évêque de Nancy, La Fare.
